Why add a set of 4 Drop Down Stabilizers to your tiny house trailer?  Or not add them?

By adding Drop Down Stabilizers to the corners of your tiny house trailer, this will make for a fast and easy way to create a flat, level trailer as a foundation for building your tiny house on wheels.  Also handy when exhibiting a tiny house at a tiny house show.

Please Note: In our humble opinion these stabilizers are best suited for the build phase of your tiny house on wheels and have less utility during the living phase of your tiny house.  Here’s why.

Once you have built the tiny house, these stabilizers will struggle to lift the weight of the tiny house off its suspension.  The total rated weight capacity of x4 of these stabilizers is 1812kg (453kgs per stabilizer).

So, once the tiny house is complete and nearing its 3500kgs or 4500kgs capacity you may likely need to use a different product to achieve a solid feel to your house as you move around in it.  The low cost method to achieve this solid floor feeling is a set of 4 axle jack stands (google “axle jack stands”).  We do not sell these, they are readily available at auto equipment retail outlets for a modest price.

Here’s how to do it.  Using a hydraulic bottle jack (google “hydraulic bottle jack”) you’ve borrowed from a friend you lift the tiny house up and slip the axle jack stands under the corners of your trailer, locating them along the chassis rails of your trailer. (google “trailer chassis rail”).  In doing so you will be able to lift enough weight off the trailer’s suspension to achieve a solid feeling underfoot, elevating it from a swaying caravan-like experience into a solid house-like experience.

And so this is why we do not make stabilizers standard on our trailers: they add to the tare weight of the trailer, cost you more and may not achieve what you want in the living phase of your tiny house.
