Choosing between Flat Top or Protruding Wheel Guard:
One of the key decisions to make when choosing your tiny house trailer is to decide between a Flat Top style or a Protruding Wheel Guard style.
Flat Top Tiny House Trailer
- The Flat Top Trailer allows you the most flexible floor plan because you don’t have to build around the wheel guards. You can place a large sliding door in the middle of the long wall easily.
- Sits 750mm off the ground.
- The flat top (tri-axle) design accommodates two large aluminum storage boxes (sold separately) totaling an additional 800 liters of underfloor storage space.
- The building process for the walls is somewhat simpler because you don’t have to go up and around the wheel guards; its a straight shot all the way across the trailer top.
- A slightly higher trailer design gives the Flat Top trailer a higher clearance, which can be useful for undulating terrain.
Protruding Wheel Guard Tiny House Trailer
- The Protruding Wheel Guard (PWG) tiny house trailer sits lower to the ground, at 670mm from the ground.
- The PWG Tiny house trailer is approximately 40kgs lighter than an equivalent Flat Top Trailer.
- The PWG is slightly less expensive than a Flat Top Tiny House Trailer.
- Design of the tiny house needs to accommodate the wheel guards, usually into internal cabinetry.
- Tandem axle design can increase maneuverability around tight corners.
